April 30, 1990 Release # 90-083 Urgent Warning To Discard U.S. Mom's "Baby's Cloud" Infant Bean Bag Cushion Because Of Suffocation Risk WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission staff is urging consumers to destroy immediately any "Baby's Cloud" infant cushions in their possession because of a suffocation risk. The Baby's Cloud infant cushion was manufactured by U.S. Mom's, Las Vegas, NV. The Commission has received 19 reports that an infant was found dead lying face-down on an infant bean bag cushion. None of the reported deaths involves a U.S. Mom's product. U.S. Mom's sold about 3,500 infant cushions nationwide in small retail stores from 1985 to 1988 when it went out of business. Its primary retailer, GEMCO, is also out of business. Because these firms are out of business, the Commission staff urges consumers to destroy the product immediately. The Baby's Cloud cushion is a fabric covered, polystyrene pellet-filled cushion intended for use with infants.
